Dealing with employee issues in an insurance agency

We’re wrapping up our week of diving deeply into how to boost employee engagement, and this one last tip might be something that you often neglect. How do you go about dealing with employee issues in an insurance agency?

“My message to you in this video is: if there are issues in the office, even small ones, just address them, address them routinely.”

Do you typically tackle these issues as they happen, or after they explode? We think that addressing issues at their earliest stages is crucial, but that oftentimes, owners and leaders might ignore issues, hoping they blow over. But what we find is that instead of blowing over, they usually fester and grow.

Here’s why immediately dealing with employee issues in an insurance agency is crucial, and how you can do it:

Issues can be dealt with in regular meetings

If you’re not in the habit of regularly meeting with your team, then when issues arise, you’re going to have to call a big, dramatic meeting. This idea alone can hold leaders back from wanting to deal with employee issues in an insurance agency, but it can easily be avoided if you’re already having regular meetings. You need to have a healthy mechanism in place, to regularly deal with employee issues.

Issues are bound to grow

Identifying issues quickly is important because as we mentioned earlier, issues tend to grow. Even if we prefer to sweep them under the rug, issues seldom resolve themselves in this way, and this really isn’t a resolution.

You don’t want to tick off your rockstars

We all have the rockstars in our agency, and if there are unfair standards, you might tick them off. For example, if one person is getting away with excessive cell phone use, some of your rockstars might start to feel burned out. We want to make sure these employees stay productive and energized, and not disengaged by the office morale.

The best way of dealing with employee issues in an insurance agency is to routinely coach your team. That way, you’ll already be dialed in, and will not only be able to catch issues early, but diffuse them with ease.
