Insurance Agency Culture (What’s Holding It Back & Upsetting Your Manager?) Closed Minds

Posted on August 18, 2021 by Alex Arellano

Insurance Agency Culture

It can be tough to know what exactly is ticking off your manager at your insurance agency, and that’s why we’re here to help. All this week we’re bringing up some big things that can really bug your managers, and today’s topic is all about having a closed mind.

”I’m very vocal about the number one thing I think that could impact insurance agents: actually becoming Blockbuster. And if we don’t stay relevant, that is a significant thing that could happen in this industry.”

A closed mind means that as new initiatives and things come up, you write them off as not going to work. It means a negative reaction to changes and new things, and even standing in the way of new initiatives. Having a closed mind can have a huge impact on insurance agency culture.

Changes are usually tried and true

When we have a closed mind to new changes, we’re likely not seeing how carefully thought out these changes are. Much of the time these solutions are weeks, if not months, in the making. They’re oftentimes changes that have also worked at other agencies. If these things are working in other agencies and we can see we’re successful, then our closed-mindedness definitely needs to go.

Having a closed mind could lead an agency to become Blockbuster

Remember how popular Blockbuster was? But what happened? It didn’t adapt to changes, so it didn’t survive. If agencies don’t stay relevant, there is a significant chance that could happen in this industry. New things come down the pipeline very quickly, and it’s important to learn and adapt.

You need solutions, not problems

If you’re closed minded to that new management system, the new virtual assistant, or marketing technology, you need to think to yourself if you’re contributing to the problem. If you’re simply judging and reacting to a change, you should reassess. When you’re starting to look at the solutions, you’ll be much more open to positive change.
