Independent Insurance Agency Technology Use
Who didn’t love Blockbuster back in the day? It was a classic and was beloved, until it became outdated. And there were some pretty obvious reasons for why this happened. All this week, we’re going to talk about all of the reasons why we believe that agencies could become like Blockbuster, and they have to do with embracing independent insurance agency technology.
“We need to push people and we need to embrace technology. Now you may not need to be on the bleeding edge, but you should be on the leading edge of technology because this is going to be the solution to many challenges in insurance.”
It’s important to recognize that consumer needs have changed, and that independent insurance agency technology use has two major challenges.
1. We struggle at embracing insurance technology
It’s always an uphill battle to embrace new insurance technology. Agency owners go out and talk to other agency owners, or they go to a convention, and do basically anything to try to solve problems. But the real solution? It’s usually technology.
But usually, when we bring back new technology, we immediately hit resistance, because there is change, and everyone shuts down and doesn’t respond. For example, people today don’t use headsets, or still use only one monitor. These are great new pieces of technology and they need to be integrated into people’s workflows.
2. A lot of insurance technology is difficult to use
This is still an issue with independent insurance agency technology. Much of it is still quite difficult to use. Even picking an agency management system is a huge challenge, because there’s definitely no such thing as the perfect one. They all have their hiccups and challenges, but the good news is that they are getting better. In the meantime, we have to make an effort to make due with what we have.
We need to push people to embrace technology, and encourage independent insurance agency technology use. Because we definitely don’t want to end up like Blockbuster. And we need to remember that Blockbuster had the opportunity to become Netflix, and turned it down because they just couldn’t see the vision.
