Are Your Insurance Team Goals Connecting With Your Team?

Now that we’re in the beginning of February, you may be feeling something that’s all-too-common this time of year. It goes like this: you started the year off strong with goals and energy, and you were excited to hit the ground running. But now that we’re a few weeks into the year, you find out there’s a disconnect between what was launched, and your team’s activity. This happens in small businesses all of the time, as we start to track our progress on goals.

As the leader, it’s your job to put fire and gasoline into those goals, and I know that that’s not always easy. You’ve got a lot of things on your plate. But what could be more important than your agency hitting those goals and for you to take a little bit of time to make sure that they’re on track?”

If you’ve noticed that your team is starting to derail from their goals, and there’s a disconnect between goals and actions, here’s how you can put the train back on its tracks.

1. Put on your detective hat

The first way to get your team back on track with its insurance goals is to do a little bit of detective work, to see if people actually remember their goals in the first place. You can do a check in, and say “Hey, can you remind me what the goals are this year?” If someone can’t repeat them back to you, they’re surely not embodying them.

2. Make sure everyone is on pace with reporting

In order to track progress, it’s important that everyone is on track and on pace with reporting. We recommend weekly reports that keep everybody goal-focused. This will ensure that agents are making the most of their time, by being productive instead of just busy, and will help put everyone back on track to hit their goals.

3. Tie goals into the job description

When you’re hiring new agents, you can make sure they’re goal-oriented from the beginning, by including goals in the job description. If you’re struggling to define goals in a job description, we actually have templated job descriptions in our Agency Process Pack, which will ensure you’re hitting all the marks when hiring.

4. Have a physical printout

In order to make sure everyone on your team is working with their insurance goals in mind, have something printed and posted in highly visible places. Agents can keep a copy on their desk, and you can display goals in places like the break room and hallway.

While this annual slump can happen to anybody, it’s important to see it as an opportunity to leap forward, especially if you want to be a Ridiculously Amazing Agent in 2021.
