Time Management Tips Part 4: Ditch the Note Pad

Posted on February 27, 2017 by Kelly Donahue Piro

We are now on week 4 of our agency efficiency series. Hopefully you have been following along and trying new things. This week may be a dosey out there for our paper fans. Get rid of a note pad on your desk. Yup, trash it.

I have been in far too many agencies where people have note pads full of stuff that is not in the management system. Why are you writing something down to then type it into the management system to then do it? That seems inefficient. But our FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) push us toward having a safety blanket of paper. We commonly hear that it’s too hard to type and talk…. not true.  It’s just a learned skill. If you’re telling me that even with a headset typing and talking is a problem then we need to have a more serious conversation. We are just more comfortable with paper. Push yourself to ditch paper.

For those long standing tree killers addicted to paper who need a stepping stone go to a white board. You have to clear off the white board before you can add more. I can’t justify the idea that you write things down to type them in. That costs you TIME. Also, I can barely read my own handwriting so it’s a struggle.  And the struggle is real!

Get ready for our final blog in the series!

  • Quoting on the phone (Crazy, right? Can’t be done… wrong!)
  • Templates for emails and letters in your system (Down to every single communication, saving seconds matters)
  • Being efficient and effective in client communication (Building a great client experience efficiently)
  • Banning the note pad from the office (Why are you jotting notes to type them in later?)
  • Limiting the time suck of remarketing (How to use remarketing tastefully)

Also if you want some live and economical training for your team join us on April 5th for our Webinars for a Cause on Time Management for Insurance. Proceeds go to the ASPCA and you can get the recording to share with your entire team!
