Things That Irritate Your Insurance Team

Everyone has their pet peeves, but sometimes, it’s tough for managers to know exactly what is bugging their insurance team. That’s why all this week, we’re diving into things that irritate your insurance team. Don’t worry owners, it’s not just a one-way street. Next week we’ll get into four things that tick off owners more than anything.

“What we really encourage people to do is when you say you’re going to do something, you need to have a written plan. Whether it’s in your planner, your calendar, a note to yourself, to really take it seriously, because what ends up happening is people become apathetic.”

One of the biggest things that irritates your insurance team is what we call “no follow through.” This happens when a leader or owner makes a grand plan, a big announcement, or a promise for change, and fails to actually make it happen. Here’s why lack of follow through can be one of the biggest things that irritates your insurance team.

Lack Of Follow-Through Leads To Apathy

Lack of follow-through might not seem like such a big deal to agency owners, but to your insurance team, it can be huge. When your team starts feeling like you don’t follow through, they’re going to start feeling apathetic, which can be extremely problematic for morale, but also detrimental to business.

On the surface, lack of follow through might not seem like a problem, but behind the scenes, this will all become a much bigger deal.  When we speak with agencies, this comes up all the time. Team members tell us what they were promised, and that those things never happened, and that they’re feeling cast aside.

To Follow Through, Come Up With A Plan

It’s not enough to just propose big changes and ideas. In order to follow through, you need to write it down and come up with a plan. Whether you write it in your planner, your calendar, or in a note to yourself, writing down your plans will ensure that you come up with a way to follow through, and deliver on your promises.

Of course, there will be times when your plans for follow through are delayed, or that there’s a wrench in your plan. Even when this is the case, it’s important to address it with your team, and communicate your status. Communicating your progress and meeting expectations are key to keeping your team motivated and unified.

Lack of follow through is one of the biggest things that irritate your insurance team, but it’s certainly not the only one. Make sure you stick with us for the rest of this week, to find out what else might be bugging your team.
