Posted on June 28, 2017 by Kelly Donahue Piro

Is your team getting hit by the rate bullet constantly? Are you seeing signs of burnout and frustration? You need to get your team on the proactive bandwagon! But if you are can’t quite get there yet we have a few scripts that should help your team out.

Here are a few things everyone needs to remember:

  1. Rates will increase naturally every year 3.5%. We need to be prepared.
  2. Rate increases come from the carrier as well as the client.
  3. We need to take our time to review the account rather than get trapped in the rate game.
  4. Your best strategy is to run into a rate increase, not away from it.

Here are our best talking points for handling rate increases:

CALL OUT-INCREASE DUE TO ENDORSEMENT, CLAIM, PAYMENT OR CREDIT SCORE ISSUE

“So I have reviewed your account it looks like X happened earlier this year.   As you know, this does impact your rates. Let’s go ahead and review your account to make sure you are maximizing all discounts. ”

CALL OUT-INCREASE DUE TO CARRIER RATE INCREASES

“I’m glad I reached you.  I was reviewing your account and it looks like your rates have increased a bit. I’d like to do a review with you to see if we can help lower that by making some changes. ”

INBOUND CALL

“I’m so happy you called, you were on my list to contact today. I noticed the rate increase as well. Let’s see what can we do. Before we start can we confirm your contact information in case we get disconnected?”

SOMEONE WHO IS STILL HESITANT “As you may have read, insurance rates in this state have been all over the map with the recent storms we have had. My insurance rates have increased, as well! Just so you know, we review your account routinely and we will call you so we can review your options. Also, did you know we work with the top carriers in the state, so you don’t have to wonder if you have the best carrier!”

A bonus tip is to know how much on average your state is increasing rates. Often people feel better hearing that they are at or below average.
