Insurance Time Management: Notebook Bottleneck

Insurance Time Management:  Notebook Bottleneck

Insurance time management can be challenging to master, and there’s a good reason why.

You’re not gonna find hours in your day but you will find minutes and minutes add up to hours.”

We’re never actually taught exactly how to manage our time as insurance agents, and many of us develop habits that are inefficient, or just plain wasteful. This next habit may be one that seems small, but is costing you big time: your notebook.

Insurance agents are notorious for using notebooks, and we’ve come to think that they’re essential. We’re here to tell you that they’re not only unnecessary, but probably one of your big time traps. Here’s the truth about notepads and insurance time management:

1.Notepads are inaccessible

When you write something on a notepad, it’s in your own handwriting. This can make it difficult to read for others, but sometimes even for yourself. Not only that, but it’s important to remember we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, meaning that sharing physical notepads is even more inaccessible than ever before.

2.What happens on the notepad stays on the notepad

You may jot things down in the spirit of entering them into your system, but you know just as well as we do that plenty of things on your notepad never actually make it into your system. You need to get used to taking whatever you would receive, and putting it in the system right away. Oftentimes, we use a notepad as a crutch, because we don’t want to do direct entry.

3.There are better alternatives

If you’re truly a fanatic of writing things down, there are better options than notepads. In fact, a whiteboard may be your best bet. That’s because on a whiteboard, you have finite space, and you need to erase it to keep going. So to wean yourself off of note-taking, switch to a whiteboard first. You may think that this will take you more time, but as we say, slowing down to speed up can actually help you manage your time more efficiently.

Ultimately, it’s important to realize that your notepad is really just a home for sticking more things to do, which is an inefficient way of managing your time. And while you might not find spare hours in your day, you’ll certainly find spare minutes, which add up to hours.
