Insurance Burnout

Our next few videos are going to be focused on something that can plague agency owners: insurance burnown. If you’re facing burnout as an agency owner, we completely get it, because we’ve been in your shoes. Starting your own small business sometimes means working a million hours and still feeling stuck, and it means sometimes dealing with anxiety and fear. We’re going to walk you through ways to get reengaged, and how you can get through this burnout.

We’ve been seeing more and more agencies come to us just overwhelmed, working a million hours and still feeling stuck and not getting ahead. And I wanna tell you I have in your shoes. Starting a business having a healthy dose of anxiety and fear around it caused me to work way overboard.”

Here are some things you might be experiencing as an owner with burnout:

Envy of your employees

Are you envious that your employees are spending their free time golfing, fishing, and doing things with their families? When you’re the owner, it can sometimes feel like you’re missing out, especially if you’re not making time for the things that make you the happiest. By learning how to handle your agency burnout, you’ll be able to make time for those things.

Working through the weekends

If you’re an owner with burnout, your schedule is probably packed. You’re likely working through the weekends, and you’re probably putting in 50+ hours a week. But get this: did you know that working more than 50 hours a week actually doesn’t lead to more productivity, and actually decreases it? Not only that, but as a business owner, we need to take downtime in order to be well-rested, on time, and to be creative. Showing up to meetings yawning and late isn’t a great look, but it can happen to the best of us when we’re struggling to keep up.

Taking on too many tasks

As an owner, you likely know the ins and outs of your business like the back of your hand. Since you put the systems in place, it makes sense that you know them. But sometimes when we’re running at full speed, we don’t take the time to slow down and actually train others to do these things. That’s how leaders end up taking on many tasks that are actually below their pay grade.

You have no margin

If you’re booked wall-to-wall and at your threshold for stress, that also means that you’re operating with no margin, or no “wiggle room.” Then, if something unexpected happens or something goes wrong, you might feel inundated with stress, because you don’t have any extra capacity to deal with it.

In order to work through your agency owner burnout, there are several steps we’re going to walk you through. First, you need to sit down and outline your vision. Your vision might be something like not having to work on the weekends, or wanting to be home every night for dinner. This might be challenging to pin down, but take a few minutes, write down your vision, as well as all of the things you’re dissatisfied with, and all of the things you’re looking forward to. In the next video, we’re going to dive deeper into how to organize your time a bit better.
