Engaging and Developing Leaders: Engaging Your Staff

Welcome back to another week of three-minute videos, and our first video in 2022. This week’s topic is all about developing leaders on your team, which should definitely be one of your goals for this new year. While there are so many leaders in our industry (and probably a ton right there in your office) it’s your responsibility as a leader to engage and develop your people to be the best, and to do their best.

Your responsibility as a leader is to engage and develop your people to be the best, and to do their best. And if you really, really want to do this, then you’ve gotta engage in developing your leaders.”

Developing leaders on your team starts with engaging your staff and focusing on your culture. Here are some ways you can do just that:

 

  • Share your vision: When you share your passion and your vision, you inspire others on your team. Maybe even most importantly, you get buy-in from your team. You need to take steps to share your vision and goals with your people.
  • Have individual conversations: In order to really develop your leaders and engage your team, you need to have those ultra-valuable one-on-one conversations. Being a leader doesn’t mean keeping things to yourself, and instead, you need to connect with the people on your team. 
  • Build culture: When you have those individual conversations and really connect with people, you’ll get to the next step, which is building a culture that people want to be a part of. Developing leaders on your team and engaging with people ultimately comes down to office culture. People want to work at a place they enjoy being at when they feel like they’re with like-minded people, who are all going after the same goals. 

 

When you put in the time and energy into engaging with your staff and focusing on your culture, you can help build strong leaders, right there in your office.
