Be a Brady

Posted on February 9, 2017 by Kelly Donahue Piro

I am certainly not trying to be polarizing this week, but it just needs to be said:

You Need to be a Brady.

For New Englanders and sports fans the story is quite well-known. A tall skinny kid from bay area in California who only played half of the snaps his senior year of college at Michigan, was drafted 199th  by the New England Patriots in a league where the best quarterbacks are typically taken within the top 10.

His scouting report referred to him as not having a “tight spiral” (an absolute must for a Quarterback in the National Football League. He was described as “not having a good deep ball” and lacked a “strong arm.” The six quarterbacks taken before him went to storied franchises such as the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Brady’s own favorite team growing up, the San Francisco 49ers. Brady was drafted in the sixth round by a historically horrendous franchise located in a sleepy suburban town where there were practically more attendees at the local prison than a typical Patriots game.

The point is, when faced with the adversity of circumstances beyond your control you can choose to be a Bust or a Brady.

When facing the scourge of direct providers, you can either ride an ever diminishing wave of renewals as your business leaks out the back door, or you can step up and be what my friend Chris Paradiso calls, “the last agent standing.”

Pick 199 from the 2000 draft did not win 5 of 7 Super Bowls appearances because he was the fastest, tallest, smartest, or most revered pick. He won because he worked the hardest.  That’s what we have to do in the insurance space to hold our market share and grow our book of business.

Hustle and Heart are What Set You Apart.

So get out there and be a Brady!
