How to Hold People Accountable Without Being a Jerk: Coaching Meetings

One of the best ways you can hold people accountable is by having regular coaching meetings in your insurance agency. What does that mean?

It means that each week, on the same day, at (roughly) the same time you bring everyone in and get everyone on the same page. Bring people in on whatever plans you have and get a sense of how everyone is feeling.

Something we think you should always have, in any meeting ever, is an agenda. We don’t want to waste anyone’s time, especially not yours, so be intentional. Know what you want to cover, take the time to cover it, and then move on.

In the event of a problem, trim it down to a mention, but don’t dwell. You don’t need to spend the meeting being a firefighter, that’s not what these are for. They are meant to inspire, encourage, and get everyone on the same page.

And if there is an issue with someone in particular, don’t call them out in front of everyone. Talk to that person, alone, in private about that issue. There really is no need to address the whole team. This isn’t the gallows, we don’t collect to watch people hang.

Really, no matter how you structure it. There should always be regular coaching meetings happening in your insurance agency. It’s a great way to not only keep them accountable, but also progress as a unit–which is something we always want to do.
