Boosting Insurance Employee Performance: The Two Words That Change Everything

If you’re interested in boosting insurance employee performance at your agency, there are two little words that can help you get there: thank you.

“We can all use a little bit more gratitude in today’s world, and it all starts with us. We don’t have to wait to have someone show us appreciation to give it.”

We don’t just mean the “thank you” you tell the clerk in the grocery store when you check out. Instead, we’re talking about giving specific praise and gratitude to your insurance agents, to make sure they feel appreciated, and to help them want to be the best agents they possibly can. Here’s what you need to know about using gratitude to boost insurance employee performance:

Saying “thank you” can be hard

As owners and leaders, we definitely all struggle with difficult things during our day-to-day, and some of those things can ruffle feathers in our relationships. All day long, you’re putting out fires, and fixing mistakes. This can cloud our judgement on being able to show gratitude, because the things that we have to focus on often are not pleasant, but it’s important to remember how valuable gratitude can be in an agency.

Agents usually won’t brag about their performance

When an agent does a great job, they’re likely not going to be boastful or prideful. They won’t come into your office and tell you all of the good things they’ve done all day, and it’s important to remember that. Their accomplishments can get hidden in the mud, which is why it can be so valuable when leaders express gratitude. As humans, we all love to be recognized for doing the right thing. Showing gratitude is important for making sure you have an agency full of Tiggers, instead of Eeyores.

You can create a gratitude routine

If you’re struggling to find time to regularly thank your employees, we recommend actually setting aside time on your calendar to accomplish this task. There are gratitude journals out there to help with your personal life, so why not have one at your work desk for this very purpose? Setting aside time, and creating a method for gratitude, can help you accomplish this task with ease.

Gratitude is a two-way street

If you’re a team member, keep in mind that you can also express gratitude towards your leaders. Especially during the pandemic, when things have been tougher on all of us, everyone could use the occasional recognition for hard work.

A big thank you can go a long way, especially if it’s sincere, heartfelt, and intentional. Thanking your employees and acknowledging their hard work can help motivate them, boost their performance, and encourage them to be Ridiculously Amazing Agents in 2021.
