Agency Assessment Stat: Agency Goals

Posted on August 6, 2015 by Kelly Donahue Piro

So less that 50% of agencies do not have any documented goals. Yes, put your eyeballs back in your head. How is anyone going to know what we are trying to achieve and how we will celebrate if there are no goals? No goals means that hope is your only strategy.  A good strategy usually involves a plan.

So why do so few agencies set goals? Well, tracking can be a challenge for most agencies but it doesn’t have to be an unbearable one. We need to sit down and write our goals out and then tell them to our team. Too often managers have goals that are never clearly communicated. Goals that are just locked in your desk drawer have a low likelihood of achievement.

How do you set good goals? You make them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Bound).  The best way is to take an annual goal and then break it down by:

  • Month
  • Week
  • Day
  • By Person

When you see a goal broken down by person, it just seems easier!

I have always said that truly knowing what you want is sometimes the absolute hardest thing in the world. When you know what you want you can see what it takes to get there and the new challenges that may arise. However, going willy nilly into the future doesn’t work either. So stop reading this insurance consulting blog and start writing down your goals. Oh and if you are struggling, call us.  We would love to hear from you!
