If you are an Insurance Agent 2021 stop and take a moment to watch these videos to help you become ridiculously amazing this year.

When to Fire an Employee

Today we’re talking about a topic that can be tricky to navigate: when to fire someone on your insurance team. We think this is a critical topic to cover because we’ve seen agencies hold onto team members for far too long. We’ve even seen agencies who have had an employee steal from them and still keep them on board, which is not acceptable. There needs to be a minimum standard of what you’re willing to put up with as an agency owner or leader.

“The reason I think that this is absolutely critical is because a lot of times I see agencies hold on to team members far too long. I’ve seen agencies who’ve had someone steal from them and still keep them on board. There has to be a minimum standard of what you’re willing to put up with.”

Overthinking Employee Firing

When we’re running an agency and we’re considering doing something new, whether that’s considering a texting initiative, changing roles, or you want to go to a sales process, there tends to be this little voice in our heads. That little voice might say “What will someone think?” Especially when it comes to terminating employees, we really tend to overthink employee firing, and be concerned with what our employees will think.

“What I want to say is this: if you sat down and added up my time, and the owner’s time, all the things talking about this one person or two people, imagine how much that is costing your agency. It’s absolutely catastrophic.”

Insurance Employee Enthusiasm

All this week we’re covering when to fire an employee when you’re running an agency, and today we’re discussing how attitude comes into play. We say that insurance employee enthusiasm needs to be a thing, because if people don’t want to be at your agency, they’re wasting everyone’s time.

“You might be thinking: is this really a requirement for their job? Would I fire someone for not being enthusiastic? I would say absolutely.”

Don’t Lower Your Insurance Standards

This is the culmination of our videos on knowing when to fire an employee, and the big message is this: don’t lower your insurance standards. As someone who is running an agency, you need to be constantly architecting your entire team, and when you have people that you wouldn’t hire again on your team that are not A players, or even B players, then you’re making an excuse for your agency.

“As a leader you need to be constantly architecting your entire team, and when you have people that you wouldn’t hire again on your team, that are not A-players, that are not even B-players, you’re literally making an excuse for your agency.”
